OTC Picnic

Today at OTC there was the campus picnic, we had to go out and get three things done. Those three things where to talk to the honors table, get three free things, and lastly to do something outside of our comfort zone. I'm going to start off with when i visited the honors table. I talked to a woman who was very nice and i have decided that i am going to look into taking honors classes next semester. When i was in high school i really wanted to take honors classes but i had a teacher who told me i wasn't good enough to take an honors class, so that scared me away from taking them. After talking to this lady today she really brought back out the drive to sign up for honors classes. So i decided to email the director of the honors program and set up an appointment to talk to him about it and get all my questions answered. I'm very excited about it! Next the three free things i got was a free tanning card, a free notebook and pictures from the picture booth. The tanning card me and Jennifer received probably will not be used by me because i don't do indoor tanning but it was still a free thing that was offered to me so i decided to take it. The free notebook was from the christian church table. Me and Jennifer went and did the goofy photo booth thing. It was a lot of fun besides the fact that i never knew when the pictures where going to be taken, so they came out really funny looking. It was a lot of fun though. Lastly the thing i did that was out of my comfort zone was me and Jennifer took a picture with Clifford the big red dog who was walking around. Usually I'm to shy to do something like that so that was definitely out of my comfort zone. It was fun doing that though! That was my experience today at the picnic. It was actually a lot of fun. I watch several of the people in my English class do the sumo reselling thing. It was very funny to watch. It was a fun picnic.

This I Believe

This I believe that you can do anything you set your mind to. I believe this because it was the way my mother raised me. Growing up she would always tell me don't say you cant, you can always do anything you set your mind to. So as i was growing up and hearing that very often and all the time it started to become a way of life for me. I started to stop saying i cant and start getting into the mind set i can. My example i have to back this up would be how i moved here at such a young age and from about five states away or so. Around my junior year of high school i knew i was going to move out of the state but i didn't know where until the end of my junior year when i decided i was moving here. A lot of the students in my graduating class were way to scared to leave home and be so young out in the world on there own. I on the other hand had the mind set that i could do it no matter how difficult it would be for me. So sure enough when it came down to it and i graduated and it was time for me to get in the car and drive here i did. Yes i was scared and nervous but because my mom always put it in my head that i could do anything i set my mind to i knew i could do it with no problem. Now here i am about three months later and i have had no problems with it. My life has actually turned out way better than i though it was going to and everything has fell into place perfectly. But to think if my mom had never installed the "You can do anything you set your mind to" mind set into me then who knows where id be today. I would probably still be stuck at home like all the seniors i graduated with scared to try things on my own because i would be to scared to fail. I am living proof that you really can do anything as long as you set your mind to it and you follow through. Even if you do fail at it that does not mean it is the end of the world, you just look around and try to find a new approach to obtain that specific goal you set.

I Believe

  • Positive thoughts create positive outcomes
  • You can do what you set your mind to
  • Working out is a way of life
  • Happy is beauty
  • You should have to work for what you want
  • The way you treat others is the way you should be treated back
  • Nothing is to hard to over come
  • If you have a dream you should follow it

Furniture

A piece of furniture that has meaning to me would have to be a recliner chair that is in my moms house back in California. When my grandma passed away from breast cancer we took that chair from her place. This chair has meaning to me because when I was younger I used to stay the night at my grandma's house often because my mom worked nights. I remember every morning I use to wake up and my grandma use to always be sitting in that chair drinking her morning coffee, well I would always come up behind the chair and scare her. When I was little I really believed I was scaring her but as I grew up and got older I started to realize that since it was an everyday thing she probably wasn't really scared. She probably was just pretending to be scared because she knew it was something I enjoyed. So when my grandma passed away from breast cancer when i was around five or six years old, my mom and aunt had to go through the house and clean it out. Well my mom asked me what I wanted to take to remember grandma and I said I wanted that chair and an angel music box. So ever since I was five or six I grew up with that chair in my home back in California. It brought me a sense of comfort, as if she was still there. She was basically like a second mother to me, I was very close to her so I was very happy when my mom said we could bring the chair home.

Know Your Audience

In class on Wednesday we had a class assignment which was to post a question in know your audience and then after we had to answer everyone else in the classrooms questions. After doing this assignment I learned a lot about all the kids that are in my class period. One thing that I really noticed about my class is that there is a very wide variety of personalities and interests. Everybody's questions were unique in there own ways. The question I had asked was, "How many siblings do you have and are you the oldest, middle, or youngest child?" Because I asked that question i learned that a lot of people in that class do have a lot of siblings. I was very surprised by the answers I saw to my question. I don't really feel that there was any one question in general that surprised me. I was pretty happy to see that there were some other kids in the class that like the same sports I do which was hunting, fishing, and working out. Some of the questions were hard for me to answer though because a lot of the kids in that class have probably been born and raised here in Springfield. For example someone asked, "If you could pick any state to live in where would it be and why?" that question was hard for me to answer because I just moved here and this is my dream state to live in. I love it here so much! So some where difficult to answer but then others where super easy. I loved the wide variety of questions that where on there. After I was done answering everyone's questions, I went back and read everyone's responses to all the questions so I could see what everyone was into and sort of see there personalities. I feel that it was a great activity for the class to do because it can make you see how many different people there are and sort of get a feel for there own individual personalities. I enjoyed the activity a lot.

Purpose/Audience

In this image I think that the purpose is to show how trees are starting to not be around as much. I think its showing how they are being cut down everywhere which can symbolis how them being cut down can effect out oxagine and our breathing which in return effects our lungs. I think that this picture would be targeted towards naturalists or people who really care about the earth and what is happening to it. That includes all different age ranges from younger people to older people.

This image shows a cowboy lighting a cigarette and it has the logo Marlboro. I think the purpose of this imagine to try and get people to smoke (which is not a good thing). They are basically saying its cool to smoke because cowboys where cool back then and they smoked. I think the audience would be more targeted toward men than women. I think the age range could be any age.

In this picture there in a man who is clearly in shape and he has speakers for a stereo on his hands instead of boxing gloves and above him are the words, "Ultimate Hitting Power". I feel the purpose of  this picture is to advertise that those speaking have as much as a hit as the actual ufc fighter holding them. Everyone knows people who box are usually strong so these are as strong as him. I feel the audience would be more of a younger generation would loves music and stereos.

Typology and Writing

Today when I took the typology and writing test said that i scored the highest in the judging section and the lowest in feeling over thinking. When it comes to me scoring the highest in judging I would completely disagree with the one hundred percent. My friends always come to me with there problems because they know that I am the one person who will not judge them at all. I am very open minded and take people as they are. I never judge anyone before getting to know them and I rarely judge them after I do know them, that just isn't me. When it comes to the being lowest in feeling over thinking it was basically saying that I tend to think more then going off of feelings. I have always been the type of person who goes off my feelings majority of the time. This is because my mother was that way and raised me to be that way. If you feel something is wrong, then something probably is wrong. It's probably bad to say that I don't think things through and over analyze each situation but the truth is I don't. How ever I feel about that person or situation I got with it and don't really question it. For example, meeting new people. When I meet someone new you can usually get a good or bad vibe from them. I got with that feeling more than I go with anything. If I feel uncomfortable then I will stay away, but if I feel comfortable then its fine and I go with it. So basically to sum up this whole test I feel that it did not correctly analyze how I am. I feel that I am the way opposite of what the test said I was. I think I might have scored that way because I did not completely understand all of the questions so I might have answered differently if I actually fully understood them.

Insperational Quote

This quote i would consider a very inspirational quote because it is basically saying when everyone is putting you down prove them wrong. In life we will encounter many people who will try hard to put us down, and tell us we can't. That is not true, a lot of people are better than that and can do it. I know for example I had many people in my life who tried to put me down when they found out that i was moving to Missouri. These people would tell me that i wouldn't be able to support my self for long and that i would end up giving up and moving back home. I have been proving them wrong for almost three months, even though i am no longer in contact with them im still proving them all wrong. i work and go to school all while supporting myself and i have had no issues this far. Actually this is the happiest i have been in a long time. This example from my own life just shows how much people will try to hurt you and tell you that you can't. when you stand up though and "fight more intensely" you will make all those people who told you that you couldn't to begin with look like the ones who don't know what they are talking about.

Fear

Fear is something that a lot of people have. Someone can fear many different things but fear is something different to everyone. Some people have a lot more fear than others, they can fear anything. One thing i personally feared before getting into college was having to go to college. When your in high school a persons world is a lot different then when they are out. I know one thing that is a huge difference and i really feared a lot was in high school we had coordinators who would do everything for you. This included creating your schedule and classes, calling you in if you are failing a class, and much more. We never really had to pay attention to anything because us as high school students knew that if something was going wrong or was not right then we would definitely be hearing from our coordinators. In college on the other hand you have to do everything yourself and don't really get much guidance and help. If you sign up for a class you don't need or have already taken, then that is on you. where as in high school they made sure nothing like that could ever happen. That was a really big adjustment and change that i feared was messing up because i had to do it all on my own. i am still trying to get the hang of it but i can say that i do not fear it as much as i did before i graduated high school. I think i feared the unknown more than actually having to do it. They did not stress enough at the high school i went to how independent college would be. they made it sound like it would be similar to high school and it would be perfectly fine. Little do they inform us it is very independent and very different but in a good way. I love college!
